The Massachusetts Nonprofit Network, the association that represents the Commonwealth’s nonprofit sector, said it has a new chief executive: Rick Jakious.

The network, which refers to itself as MNN, seeks to raise the nonprofit sector’s visibility, engage members in public policy initiatives, and help individual nonprofits in the state. MNN currently includes nearly 500 members representing nonprofits in various parts of Massachusetts.

Rick Jakious, a former City Year executive, has been named chief executive officer of the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network, an umbrella organization that represents the nonprofit sector in Massachusetts.

Now with about 500 members statewide, MNN was launched in 2007 with a mission of strengthening the nonprofit sector by raising its visibility, engaging in public policy initiatives and helping nonprofit organizations build capacity. According to a 2008 report from the Boston Foundation, nonprofits employ nearly 14 percent of the state’s workforce.

The Massachusetts Nonprofit Network, the state’s nonprofit trade association, today announced that it has named Rick Jakious, a senior manager at City Year Boston and former Congressional aide, as chief executive officer of the nearly 500-member organization.

“I am delighted to announce this important news,” said MNN Board Chair David Shapiro. “Rick has established himself as an accomplished and effective leader at City Year and brings a compelling set of leadership skills and experiences to MNN.

“The nonprofit sector enriches the lives of everyone in Massachusetts, which gives the mission of MNN its singular importance. Rick is the ideal person to strengthen MNN and through it to support the sector’s mission-based impact.”
