The Massachusetts Nonprofit Network has announced that the Needham-based Web of Benefit is the winner of a 2011 Nonprofit Excellence Award, in the Collaboration category.

The awards are given each year to outstanding nonprofit organizations in the Commonwealth, nominated by their peers, as part of the network’s Nonprofit Awareness Day, according to a press release.

After leading two high-profile campaigns, a Jamaica Plain youth organization was recognized this week for advocacy excellence among Massachusetts’ nonprofits.

During the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network’s third annual awareness day and awards ceremony at the State House Monday, the task force received the “Excellence Award in Advocacy” for its “nationally-recognized youth organizing,” said an announcement from the youth organization.

Legislation aimed at preventing Massachusetts nonprofit health insurers from paying their board members could also end compensation for directors at other major charitable organizations.

“This is an issue that is not on the top of the minds of our membership,’’ said David Shapiro, board chairman of the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network, which represents nonprofits statewide. “It’s relevant to only a tiny percentage of the sector.’’

After 38 years of service, Susan Egan of Beverly, co-founder and head of the Harborlight Montessori School in Beverly, is retiring at the end of the school year.

Diane Stringer, president and CEO of Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston, was named a finalist in the leadership category for the 2011 Nonprofit Excellence Awards. The awards are given each year to outstanding nonprofit organizations in the commonwealth as part of Massachusetts’ Nonprofit Network’s Nonprofit Awareness Day. Stringer has been a leader in advancing Hospice of the North Shore and Greater Boston’s end-of-life and palliative care for more than 2,700 patients annually, and she pioneered the Bertolon Center for Grief & Healing, the only bereavement support and counseling center in Massachusetts serving more than 2,000 individuals and families each year.
