The International Institute of New England (IINE) is a non-profit organization that provides humanitarian relief, education, skills training, job placement, family reunification and pathways to citizenship for 2,000 immigrants and refugees each year. We work in Boston and Lowell, Massachusetts, and Manchester, New Hampshire.

IINE is the oldest and second largest resettlement agency in the region and has the largest Central American family reunification program in Greater Boston. Reports to: Chief Development Officer

Supervises: N/A

Status: Exempt, Full Time

 

Fiscal Year Benchmarks: 

  • Responsible for raising $200K through major and mid-level donations, including from family foundations, in FY21; at least $20K should come from new donors; secure at least 5 legacy (planned giving) donation commitments
  • Provide strategic oversight to a portfolio of major donors; in concert with the CDO, set and implement the moves management strategy and activity calendar for mid-level and major donors
  • Steward 60 relationships with individual prospects and donors
  • Establish processes and procedures for a nascent planned giving program
  • Develop annual calendar for solicitations and reporting; oversee production and ensure timely submission of any required reporting to donors

 

Overview

The Manager of Foundation Relations is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of IINE’s Foundation donors.  The Manager of Foundation Relations identifies and researches new foundation prospects; prepares letters of interest, proposals, and applications for current and new foundation partners; and oversees ongoing communication and stewardship with partners.  S/he seeks to match the Institute’s programmatic funding priorities with donor interests and works closely with the CDO and collaborates with the Development team to ensure that the Institute meets its annual fundraising goals.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, English, journalism or similar field; Master’s Degree preferred
  • At least 3-5 years of relationship management, grant writing, program management or equivalent experience
  • Excellent writing and research skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to persuasively articulate an organization’s mission, program objectives, and funding needs to a range of potential donors
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills: ability to collaborate effectively with staff across departments and in culturally diverse settings
  • Strong interest in refugees and immigrants
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and work under tight deadlines
  • Experience growing development activities and revenue
  • A high level of personal and professional accountability
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills; prior experience with Adobe Creative Suite desktop publishing tools and Salesforce customer relationship management software preferred.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and write letters of interests, applications, and grant proposals to private foundations and other grant-making organizations, persuasively communicating the organization’s mission and programs to potential funders
  • Assemble and submit grant requests, including proposal narratives, budgets, and attachments
  • Ensure prompt acknowledgement of foundation gifts in accordance with established protocols
  • Develop and maintain annual calendar (in Salesforce) for solicitations and reporting; oversee production and ensure timely submission of all required reporting to donors
  • Lead a weekly meeting to provide updates on submission, award, and prospecting statuses and preparing and disseminating a weekly report
  • Conduct research on potential foundation donors, leveraging relationships and outreach by the Chief Development Officer and other staff; prepare funder briefs
  • Support IINE development office activities by writing appeals, newsletters, and other content
  • Prepare proposals and pitch decks to individual prospects and donors as requested by the Chief Development Officer
  • Maintain activity and donor information records in Salesforce, including updating records with as many contacts as possible at each corporate sponsors
  • Willingness to perform administrative functions as needed, such as filing, photocopying, routine donor correspondence, and database management
  • Prepare copy and other materials needed for the Annual Report, blog posts, newsletters, appeals, and other marketing materials related to development activity
